Do the same sex unions now being allowed in certain parts of the US pose a problem. Will believers face hardships from these state decisions.
In a recent email from focus on the family.
“How is this possible? This past June, the Illinois Legislature legalized same-sex civil unions, including “religious protections” for those with deeply held religious beliefs. Unfortunately, the protections simply weren’t enough, and now faith-based adoption services in the state are being forced to either place children into homes with same-sex couples or face losing their contract with the state.
In this week’s CitizenLink Report, Stuart Shepard interviews the mother of four and talks with Judicial Analyst Bruce Hausknecht about the impact same-sex marriage is having on families.
Soon after the law’s passage, Catholic Charities in Illinois suspended their adoption services, and now Evangelical Child and Family Agency is ending their services as well. According to the Illinois Department of Human Services, these two organizations ranked number one and two for adoption services in the state.
Social issues hitting home
Frequently, my team and I are asked, “How does same-sex marriage really affect you or your family?” There are many answers—and in this case, private, faith-based organizations are closing, no longer able to fulfill the Lord’s calling for serving the least of these, children waiting to be welcomed home by “forever families.”
Illinois is not alone. In the past few years, religious organizations in Boston, San Francisco and Washington, D.C. have suspended adoption services because of the legalization of same-sex marriage or civil unions. Now in Illinois, instead of letting these organizations continue to operate as their faith directs, by referring couples and individuals to other adoption services, the state government is now declaring them unfit to help children because of their religious beliefs.”
Where is this idea going? Will we see such issues among churches?
